Schist & Timber Platform Bed

Handcrafted in New Zealand

A low-profile platform bed combining solid teak timber installed to a South Island schist stone base. 

Each stone block is individually selected, carved and shaped to slot into mortise joints within the timber frame. The structure is fully load-bearing, with the stone integrated into the design rather than applied as decoration.

The result is a grounded, architectural piece with natural weight and presence.

Features

• South Island schist stone, mortised into the frame and flattened on the bottom. Rubber padded can be included to protect wooden floors. 

• Solid timber construction - no visual MDF or plywood.

• Low, horizontal profile

• The extended outer frame provides functional surface area for books, water glasses, phones etc without the need for separate tables.

• Slatted base for ventilation

• Handcrafted in New Zealand

Design

The form is simple and low to the ground. Timber and stone are left as they are, without added detailing.

Each bed is made to order.

Custom Sizing

The photos are of a king bed frame with dimensions: L = 240cm / W = 200cm / H (to frame) = 30cm

Available in all standard bed sizes (Single, King Single, Double, Queen, King, Super King).
Dimensions can be adjusted slightly to suit mattress specifications or personal preference.

Small design refinements are possible by discussion.

Materials

• Solid timber (plantation teak, red/white oak, black walnut and ash options available) - or you can supply your own timber. 

• South Island schist stone

• Natural waterproof matte oil finish. 

Natural variation in stone and timber grain is expected. Each piece will differ slightly.

Build Time

Made to order - lead time typically 3–4 weeks depending on size and timber selection.

Due to size, the bed is shipped in components - please contact for international shipping options. 

NZ Nationwide shipping available. Steel bolt fixings are supplied for assembly, and guidance is provided if required.

Assembly on delivery can be arranged.
